Who is Behind the Couples Choice NZ™?
The Couples Choice NZ™ is a business platform of Wedding Marketing Group Pty Ltd (WMG), established in 2000.
WMG is a specialist marketing, publishing and events organisation servicing the Australian wedding industry, with a strong focus on regional markets across more than 30 wedding regions nationally.

What Is the Purpose of the Couples Choice NZ™?
The Couples Choice NZ™ exists to:
The program is open to nano, micro, small and large businesses. It is structured as a level playing field based on client voting within defined regions and categories. Recognition is based on customer satisfaction and service excellence — not industry politics, sponsorship influence or membership status.
How Do You Identify If a Business Award Is a SCAM?
In today’s digital environment, it is easy for strong opinions to circulate — particularly on social media — about business awards. However, opinion is not evidence. Before labelling any awards program as a “scam,” it is important to understand what that term actually means.
What Is a Scam?
A scam is a fraudulent or dishonest scheme designed to deceive individuals into providing money, personal information, or valuables under false pretences.
Key characteristics of scams include:
Scams typically disappear quickly, change identities frequently, and operate without transparency, history, or accountability.
How to Evaluate a Legitimate Business Awards Program
Before forming an opinion, consider the following:
1. Longevity and Track Record
The Couples Choice NZ™ has only been operation since 2025, however is operated by WMG who has operated continuously within the Australian Wedding Industry for over 25+ years.
More than 35,000 wedding businesses have engaged with WMG during this time.
Longevity, consistency, and industry participation are not characteristics of a scam.
2. Transparency of Process
Transparency is the opposite of deception.
3. No Mandatory Upfront Financial Commitment
There is no upfront investment required for a business to be voted for by newlyweds or to become a FINALIST.
Engagement beyond that point — including licensing of trademarks and marketing collateral — is entirely optional and a commercial decision made by the business.
No high-pressure sales tactics are used.
No financial penalties apply for choosing not to engage.
No ongoing unsolicited contact is made to Winners or Recipients who choose not to participate commercially.
Freedom of choice is not consistent with scam behaviour.
4. Commercial Optionality
If a business becomes a WINNER or Recipient and chooses not to engage further, they are still publicly recognised.
If they wish to access trademark licensing or marketing collateral, they initiate that engagement.
There is no coercion, no conditional recognition, and no removal of results based on financial decisions.
5. Measurable Business Outcomes
Many participating businesses have reported tangible brand reinforcement and commercial benefit when they implement the broader program framework. As with any professional development initiative, outcomes depend on how effectively a business applies the tools provided.
Awards alone do not build businesses. Strategic application does.
Why Do Some Awards Attract Criticism?
It is natural in competitive industries for recognition programs to generate debate. Common reasons for criticism may include:
